4 Jan
Summary
- Sir Chris Hoy presented the World Darts Championship trophy after a severe leg break.
- A record donation of £1.25 million was made to Prostate Cancer UK.
- The 'Even Bigger 180' campaign raised funds through darts performance.

Sir Chris Hoy, recently recovering from a severe leg fracture, presented the Sid Waddell Trophy at the World Darts Championship. This appearance marked a significant public return for the decorated Olympian, who has also been vocal about his battle with stage four prostate cancer diagnosed in September 2023. His involvement amplified the success of the 'Even Bigger 180' campaign.
The "Even Bigger 180" campaign, a collaboration with Paddy Power, successfully generated a record £1.25 million for Prostate Cancer UK. This substantial donation was achieved through pledges of £1,000 for every 180 scored and an additional £60,000 for each nine-darter. This initiative underscores the impactful intersection of sport and charitable giving.
The tournament itself saw a record 1,127 maximums hit at Alexandra Palace, contributing significantly to the funds raised. The total donation of £1,127,000 from the 180s, alongside further contributions from other schemes, will directly support vital prostate cancer research, including the TRANSFORM trial aimed at improving early screening methods.
