Cricket Star Chris Cairns Survives Triple Blow

New Zealand cricket legend Chris Cairns has shared his courageous journey through a devastating series of health setbacks that nearly claimed his life. Beginning in August 2021, he suffered a torn aorta, leading to heart failure and requiring emergency airlift to a Sydney hospital. This was followed by a spinal stroke, which resulted in paralysis from the waist down and multiple organ failures, including bowel cancer diagnosis just months later.

During this tumultuous period, Cairns also navigated the end of his marriage to Melanie Crosser, which concluded in 2023. Despite the profound physical and emotional toll, including the initial distress of requiring adult diapers before a stoma was surgically created, Cairns has found a way to reclaim his life. He emphasizes the importance of mental choice in overcoming adversity.

Now coaching children's cricket, Cairns reflects on his altered reality, acknowledging the poignant reminder of his paralysis when seeing his wheelchair's tracks on the field. However, he has also achieved significant recovery milestones, including walking with crutches.
