Bompastor Fumes: "Deserved More Respect" After CL Exit

Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor voiced strong dissatisfaction following her team's elimination from the Champions League semi-finals. Bompastor felt her players "deserved a lot more respect" for their performance, despite a 1-0 victory in the second leg against Arsenal, which resulted in a 3-2 aggregate loss. The second leg was marred by a controversial incident where Arsenal defender Katie McCabe was seen pulling Chelsea forward Alyssa Thompson's ponytail. Bompastor questioned the lack of VAR intervention, stating, "What is the VAR doing in these games?" She received a red card for her touchline protests. This follows a debated first leg where two Chelsea goals were disallowed. Bompastor acknowledged that for a club like Chelsea, the season's performance "is not good enough." Arsenal will now face either Lyon or Wolfsburg in the semi-finals. Arsenal boss Renee Slegers did not consider the hair pull deliberate and praised her team's "unbelievable performance."
