Chelmsford Races Cancelled: Licence Refused!
1 Apr
Summary
- Chelmsford race fixtures cancelled due to BHA licence refusal.
- New operator Golden Mile Racing Limited failed to secure a licence.
- Racecourse's future now faces significant doubt after decision.

Upcoming fixtures at Chelmsford, including the Good Friday event, have been cancelled. The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) refused to grant a licence to Golden Mile Racing Limited, the new company formed after the previous operator entered administration.
GMRL made oral and written representations to the BHA board following a preliminary decision. However, the board upheld its position not to grant the licence, with reasons remaining confidential.
This decision impacts scheduled meetings on April 2, April 3, and April 9. The racecourse's future is now uncertain, pending any appeal. GMRL has the option to appeal to the independent Licensing Committee within 21 days.
