Chase's Advice: Play Every Ball, Trust Your Instincts
28 Oct
Summary
- Newcomers urged to play each ball on merit.
- Chase expects the pitch to favor spin bowling.
- West Indies aims to replicate 2021 series success.
West Indies captain Roston Chase is preparing his squad for the upcoming two-match Test series in Bangladesh, starting October 28, 2026. He has specifically coached the five players making their Test debut in Bangladesh to approach each delivery with an open mind, playing every ball on its merit without pre-conceived notions about the pitch conditions.
The first Test is scheduled at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, from October 28 to November 1. Chase inspected the pitch and expects it to offer significant spin, a characteristic known of Bangladesh pitches. This assessment comes amidst local discussions about creating more balanced, sporting tracks for the series.
Despite the notable absence of Shai Hope, Chase emphasized the strength of the 15 players available. He highlighted the team's recent success in posting first-innings totals exceeding 300, a confidence booster. The West Indies squad won their last Test series in Bangladesh 2-0 in 2021 and hopes to draw on that positive history.
