NBA legend Charles Barkley recently addressed a controversial incident involving DiJonai Carrington, calling her August 8, 2026, foul on Sophie Cunningham a "dirty play." The collision, which occurred late in the first quarter of a Chicago Sky vs. Indiana Fever game, resulted in Cunningham sustaining a bloody mouth and Carrington's ejection after the foul was upgraded to a Flagrant 2.

Barkley was particularly critical of Carrington's decision to post "WHITE PRIVILEGE" on Threads shortly after the game. He argued that this social media comment was a "stupid mistake" that amplified the controversy and shifted focus from the foul itself. Barkley lamented that such actions empower "race hustlers" and that the situation would have concluded without incident had Carrington remained silent.

However, former NBA center Etan Thomas offered a contrasting viewpoint. He referenced a previous flagrant foul by Cunningham and suggested that privilege operates through subtle framing and assumptions. Thomas posited that Cunningham's actions are sometimes perceived as those of an "enforcer" while similar plays by others are criminalized, highlighting a double standard in how aggression is viewed.
