Chargers LT Rashawn Slater Out for Weeks
6 Oct
Summary
- Rashawn Slater has a high-ankle sprain and will be out for weeks.
- Joe Alt's neck injury is still under evaluation by the team.
- Several other key players are dealing with injuries of varying severity.
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh announced on Monday that left tackle Rashawn Slater will be sidelined for an unspecified duration due to a high-ankle sprain in his right foot. Initial reports suggest Slater, a two-time Pro Bowler, could miss between four to six weeks, and the team is considering placing him on injured reserve.
Slater has a history of significant injuries, having missed the entire 2025 season with a torn patellar tendon and most of the 2022 season due to a torn biceps. His absence adds to the Chargers' injury concerns.
Further complicating matters, right tackle Joe Alt is currently undergoing evaluation for a neck injury. Coach Harbaugh indicated that if Alt is unable to play, the team might shift him to left tackle and utilize rookie Travis Burke at right tackle.
Other players on the injury report include safety Derwin James (hamstring), who is considered week-to-week, and wide receiver Ladd McConkey (foot) and cornerback Donte Jackson (hamstring), both listed as day-to-day. Tight end Charlie Kolar (forearm), defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson (hamstring), wide receiver Brenen Thompson, and left guard Kayode Awosika (fibula) are reportedly making good progress in their recovery.
