Chanu & Borgohain to Lead India at Glasgow Games

Olympic medalists Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain will proudly carry India's flag and baton at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced this honor on Saturday, designating the decorated duo as ceremonial leaders for the nation's 124-member contingent.

The prestigious event is scheduled to take place on July 23 at the OVO Hydro. IOA president PT Usha highlighted that the selection of two women as flag bearers reflects their significant contributions to Indian sports and sets a positive tone for the Games.

Both Chanu and Borgohain are not only flag bearers but also strong medal prospects. Mirabai Chanu, an Olympic silver medalist in weightlifting, is a long-standing icon of the sport, while Lovlina Borgohain, an Olympic bronze medalist, became a world champion in 2023.

India's contingent comprises 124 athletes, including para-athletes, competing across 10 disciplines. Led by Chef de Mission Rohit Rajpal, the team aims to continue India's successful legacy at the Commonwealth Games.
