Chael Sonnen's Vegas Gamble: Security Guard's UFC Dream
27 Jul
Summary
- A security guard asked Chael Sonnen to help him get a UFC fight.
- Sonnen tested the guard's commitment by offering a lesser opportunity.
- The security guard will now debut in MMA in Oregon in September.
Chael Sonnen shared a remarkable story about a Las Vegas security guard who leveraged a casual "I owe you one" into a potential MMA career. Frank Solomon, the security guard, approached Sonnen wanting to fight in the UFC. Sonnen, initially skeptical, tested Solomon's resolve and commitment.
Instead of immediately approaching Dana White, Sonnen proposed a 'stooge test,' offering a less direct route. Solomon exceeded expectations by expressing a strong desire for an MMA debut, even offering to pay for it, showcasing his determination to start from the bottom.
Impressed by Solomon's dedication, Sonnen contacted Oregon promoter Kevin Keeney of the Full Contact Fighting Federation. Within minutes, Solomon completed an application and was booked for an MMA fight, scheduled for September 5 in Oregon. Sonnen hopes to attend the debut.
