Celtic Eye Southampton Defender Amidst Transfer Frenzy

Summary
- Celtic is reportedly interested in signing defender Yuki Sugawara.
- Southampton has set a €7 million price tag on the Japanese international.
- Alistair Johnston's injury may prompt Celtic to pursue Sugawara.
Celtic is reportedly in contention to sign Southampton defender Yuki Sugawara, facing competition from PSV Eindhoven. The Japanese international, capped 25 times for his country, is currently valued at €7 million by Southampton. Sugawara has prior experience in the Eredivisie, having played 135 times for AZ Alkmaar before moving to England.
Sugawara's spell at Southampton appears to be over, with the club willing to part ways with several squad members. His absence from the squad on the opening day of the Championship season further suggests he is not in the club's future plans.
This transfer speculation comes as Celtic's first-choice right-back, Alistair Johnston, is expected to be out until November following an injury sustained during a Champions League playoff match. Colby Donovan recently deputized effectively for Johnston, giving manager Martin O'Neill cause to consider reinforcing the right-back position.
