Philadelphia Union teenager Cavan Sullivan has achieved a significant milestone, scoring in his third consecutive MLS game and breaking a record previously held by Freddy Adu. The 16-year-old's clinical left-footed goal in the 75th minute secured a 2-0 win for his team against CF Montréal on Saturday.
Sullivan's performance has resulted in 11 goal contributions this year, the most by any 16-year-old in MLS history, surpassing Adu's 2005 record. He is also the youngest player in the league to record a goal contribution in five straight matches.
This is not the first time Sullivan has eclipsed Adu's records. He previously became the youngest player to debut for a senior MLS team at 14 years old. The Union signed Sullivan to a record-breaking homegrown contract, which includes a future transfer to Manchester City.
Sullivan is generating considerable attention as a potential future star for the U.S. men's national team, with calls for his inclusion in upcoming rosters. He has already represented the U.S. at the under-18 level.
