4 Oct
Summary
- Casillas believes Mourinho has returned to Real Madrid with a different approach.
- The past relationship between Casillas and Mourinho at Madrid ended poorly.
- Mourinho faced criticism for his comments on match officials after a recent defeat.
Iker Casillas, former captain of Real Madrid, has commented on José Mourinho's return to the club, stating that the manager seems "different." Casillas, who experienced a strained relationship with Mourinho during the 2010-2013 period at Madrid, suggested that while Mourinho retains his successful coaching acumen, his current approach has changed.
Their previous time together ended with an apparent rift, impacting the locker room and leading to a trophyless season before Mourinho's departure. Casillas, who has previously expressed reservations about Mourinho's return, now sees a potentially altered managerial style.
Despite Casillas's hopeful outlook, recent events have raised concerns. Mourinho, in his post-match press conference following a derby defeat, presented printouts to criticize match officials and alluded to conspiracies against Real Madrid, indicating a potential recurrence of past controversies.
Fans had hoped for a more mature Mourinho, who himself claimed to be "more mature now, less emotional, more controlled." However, the early season incidents suggest that the volatile nature often associated with his career might persist, leaving it to time to tell if he has truly changed.
