Carragher Slams Fernandes: 'Disgraceful' Man Utd Captaincy

Jamie Carragher has branded Bruno Fernandes' criticism of Manchester United's tactics as 'disgraceful,' questioning the midfielder's suitability as captain. Fernandes' comments followed a significant 4-1 Champions League loss, where he lamented the team's lack of bravery in pressing.

Carragher asserted that Fernandes' on-field actions, including his pressing approach, are detrimental to the team's tactical structure. He highlighted the midfielder's tendency to gesture at teammates, deeming it unacceptable behavior for a Manchester United captain.

The former defender recalled Lisandro Martinez's earlier criticism of the club's hierarchy, suggesting Fernandes' comments are equally inappropriate. Carragher implied that Fernandes' Player of the Year award was largely due to Michael Carrick's interim management, which he believes restored Fernandes' form.

Manchester United is currently on a concerning seven-game winless run across all competitions. Carragher stressed that players should concentrate on their own performances rather than publicly criticizing management, drawing a parallel with the exemplary leadership of former captain Brian Robson.
