Melo Reveals Near Pelicans Big 3
17 Feb
Summary
- Carmelo Anthony was nearly traded to the New Orleans Pelicans.
- A star trio of Anthony, DeMarcus Cousins, and Anthony Davis was close to forming.
- Contract issues and Pelicans' decision-making prevented the trade.
Carmelo Anthony shared details about a trade that almost sent him to the New Orleans Pelicans. Appearing on '7PM in Brooklyn' with DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony explained that a "Big 3" of himself, Cousins, and Anthony Davis was once a serious possibility. The former NBA star noted that contract specifics and the Pelicans' difficulty in finalizing a decision stalled the potential move.
Anthony also mentioned receiving a Pelicans jersey as part of the recruitment pitch. The possibility of this star-studded trio had generated buzz, with many believing they could challenge the Golden State Warriors' dominance. However, the potential trade ultimately fell through, partly due to Cousins suffering a season-ending torn Achilles tendon during that period.
