Cardinals QB Beck Gets Crucial Scout Team Reps

Arizona's NFL team is employing an innovative strategy to accelerate rookie quarterback Carson Beck's development. Given the NFL's stringent practice regulations, scout team opportunities are scarce, limiting backup repetitions. To address this, the Cardinals are now dividing scout team snaps between veteran Gardner Minshew and third-round pick Beck.

Head coach Mike LaFleur explained that this approach acknowledges Beck's limited NFL experience compared to Minshew. Beck himself finds these reps invaluable, allowing him to compete against the starting defense and adapt to the game's speed. While not running the team's primary offense, Beck gains mental reps in meetings and practices similar concepts.

Beck's development trajectory was previously hindered by a ribs injury sustained during the Hall of Fame game. After a promising start to training camp, the injury sidelined him for two weeks, causing him to miss crucial preseason games and slowing his acclimation to the NFL.

Now fully recovered, Beck feels his development has resumed its earlier pace. He credits coaches like LaFleur, Nathaniel Hackett, and Matt Schaub for his improving understanding of the game. Teammates, such as wide receiver Simi Fehoko, have also noted Beck's impressive arm talent and grasp of offensive schemes, even on the scout team.
