Canucks Trade Räty to Leafs for Two Prospects
16 Oct
Summary
- Vancouver trades forward Aatu Räty to Toronto.
- Toronto acquires forwards Brandon Buhr and Jacob Quillan.
- Both acquired forwards need contract extensions this season.
The Vancouver Canucks have completed a trade, sending forward Aatu Räty to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In exchange, the Canucks have acquired two forwards: Brandon Buhr and Jacob Quillan.
Räty, a 23-year-old center, had been a healthy scratch on several occasions this season and recently cleared waivers. His trade was therefore not entirely unexpected.
Buhr, who is from North Vancouver, recently concluded his NCAA career and has entered professional hockey. He was assigned to the ECHL and is awaiting the start of his season. Last year, he achieved over a point per game with Union College and made his AHL debut with the Toronto Marlies, recording two assists in five games.
Quillan has prior NHL experience, having played 24 games for the Maple Leafs, contributing one goal and two assists. He also played for Quinnipiac University for three years and was part of Toronto's 2026 Calder Cup championship team.
Both Buhr and Quillan are 24 years old and are scheduled to become free agents at the end of the current season, requiring new contract extensions from Vancouver.
