Ex-Spain Keeper: Barca Defense Failing Joan Garcia
23 Jan
Summary
- Goalkeeper Joan Garcia is exposed due to weak team defense.
- Lack of defensive structure undermines Garcia's confidence.
- Canizares praises Garcia as a promising European talent.
Santiago Canizares, a distinguished former La Liga and Spain goalkeeper, has voiced strong support for Barcelona's current shot-stopper, Joan Garcia. Canizares believes Garcia's difficulties are a direct result of the team's inadequate defense rather than personal performance issues.
Speaking on Cadena COPE, Canizares explained that Garcia is consistently left unprotected, significantly hindering his ability to secure clean sheets. The former Valencia keeper highlighted a systemic problem: the absence of a robust defensive structure that instills confidence in the goalkeeper.
Canizares further elaborated that Barcelona currently lacks clear defensive strategies, which is crucial for safeguarding their goalkeeper. This ongoing situation, he cautioned, could adversely affect Garcia's confidence and overall form as the season progresses.
Despite acknowledging Garcia might appear somewhat out of place in certain matches, Canizares firmly attributed this to Barcelona's defensive fragility. He championed the young goalkeeper, labeling him as one of Europe's most promising talents and recalling his previous assessment of Garcia as Spain's best.
