On the eve of the winner-take-all World Series finale, Toronto Blue Jays superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. arrived at the Rogers Centre sporting a jersey belonging to one of Canada's most celebrated athletes, Marie-Philip Poulin. Nicknamed "Captain Clutch," Poulin is the captain of the Canadian women's hockey team and has scored the gold medal-winning goal in three Olympic finals.
Poulin, who plays for the Montreal Victoire in the Professional Women's Hockey League, is the only player (male or female) to score in four Olympic gold medal games. She and the rest of the Canadian women's national hockey team were in attendance for Game 6 of the World Series on Friday, where the Blue Jays fell 3-1 to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Guerrero Jr.'s gesture of wearing Poulin's jersey was a nod to the hockey star's clutch performances and an attempt to channel her winning spirit as the Blue Jays prepare for the decisive Game 7 against the Dodgers. The Blue Jays will be hoping Poulin's jersey can bring them the same kind of luck and inspiration that has made her a Canadian sports icon.
