Cam Booser's path to becoming a key left-handed reliever for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2026 was anything but straightforward. After overcoming significant injuries, including a broken femur and vertebra, and enduring Tommy John surgery, Booser stepped away from baseball to pursue carpentry.
His baseball career was resurrected after a chance 98mph throw in front of a Rapsodo machine led him to Driveline. This led to opportunities in independent leagues, where his velocity caught the attention of scouts, eventually landing him minor league deals with the Diamondbacks and Red Sox.
Booser debuted in the majors with the Red Sox in April 2024, spending parts of the season between Boston and Triple-A. After a stint with the White Sox in 2025, he signed a minor league deal with the Rays in November 2025.
Initially not making the Opening Day roster in 2026, Booser was eventually called up on May 31st. He quickly became the Rays' primary southpaw in the bullpen, delivering outstanding performance with a 1.98 ERA and a 29.6 K% from that point onward.
