Summary
- Cale Makar recorded the fastest speed by a defenseman.
- His speed of 23.92 mph is the fastest in this year's playoffs.
- Makar's record surpasses previous marks set by Hanifin and Karlsson.

In game two of the Colorado Avalanche's series against the Los Angeles Kings on April 21, defenseman Cale Makar achieved a remarkable feat, reaching a maximum speed of 23.92 mph. This speed is officially the fastest ever recorded by a defenseman in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since tracking began in the 2021-22 season. It also marks the highest speed recorded for any player in the current playoffs.
Makar's 23.92 mph is notably faster than other top skaters this postseason, including Erik Karlsson of the Pittsburgh Penguins at 22.78 mph and his own teammate Trevor Moore at 23.48 mph. This new record eclipses the previous benchmark of 23.66 mph set by Noah Hanifin last year. Makar's previous personal best was 23.28 mph during the playoffs.
During the 2025-26 regular season, Makar ranked fifth among defensemen in speed. His current playoff speed of 23.92 mph trails only Jake Sanderson's 24.37 mph among defensemen. Notably, Nathan McKinnon holds the all-time playoff speed record at 24.54 mph, set in the 2022 playoffs. The Avalanche swept the Kings and are awaiting their next opponent.
