22 Jul
Summary
- CAF president Patrice Motsepe confirmed the CAS ruling is awaited.
- The dispute concerns the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.
- Senegal appealed to CAS after a controversial decision.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is awaiting a crucial ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) that will settle the dispute over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title. CAF president Patrice Motsepe emphasized that the confederation has no power to act until the CAS delivers its final verdict.
The controversy stems from a decision made last March, where CAF's appeals committee overturned a previous ruling. This new decision controversially handed the 2025 title to Morocco with a notional 3-0 victory against Senegal.
This award followed an incident during extra time of the final where Senegal's players temporarily left the pitch. They were protesting a penalty awarded to Morocco. The Senegalese Football Federation found the ruling unfair and subsequently lodged an appeal with CAS.
