31 Jul
Summary
- Jasprit Bumrah rested for 5th Test against England
- Prasidh Krishna replaces Bumrah in the playing XI
- Fans criticize decision to rest Bumrah for crucial match

In a move that has disappointed Indian cricket fans, ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the fifth and final Test against England, which is set to take place on July 31, 2025. The decision was made to manage Bumrah's workload, as he had already missed the second game of the five-match series.
Bumrah was seen limping during the fourth Test in Manchester, and the decision to rest him is reportedly in line with safeguarding his back for long-term goals. The lanky pacer had already confirmed that he would participate in only three out of five Tests in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
With the series on the line, fans on social media have expressed their disappointment over Bumrah's absence. Some have even suggested that the Indian selectors should not select the star bowler for a five-Test match series, citing concerns over his long-term durability and compatibility with the format.
Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has also claimed that Bumrah might retire from Tests following his poor bowling display against England in Manchester, where he returned figures of 2/112 in his 33 overs. Kaif believes that if Bumrah feels he is unable to give his hundred percent and win matches for the country, he might decide to step away from the longest format of the game.
Despite Bumrah's absence, the Indian team has made four changes to their playing XI for the fifth Test, with Shubman Gill and company bringing in Dhruv Jurel, Karun Nair, and Akash Deep to replace Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur, and Anshul Kamboj. England, who are leading the series 2-1, will be without their regular skipper Ben Stokes, with Ollie Pope taking over the captaincy duties.
