Bryson DeChambeau Stuns with Mammoth Drive at Ryder Cup Opener

The 2025 Ryder Cup, one of the most anticipated golf events on U.S. soil, kicked off on September 26th at the notoriously rowdy Bethpage Black course in Farmingdale, New York. Fans filled the massive grandstands nearly two hours early, eager to witness the opening shots.

Bryson DeChambeau, the American powerhouse, did not disappoint, launching a mammoth 344-yard drive that landed just short of the green, giving the U.S. team an early lead. However, the crowd energy was somewhat flat and disconnected, with one side of the grandstands starting a cheer while the other had something else going. At times, the atmosphere turned foul, particularly when Rory McIlroy was shown warming up on the range.

The event also saw tighter security measures in place for the late morning arrival of President Donald Trump. U.S. captain Keegan Bradley set the tone early, grabbing a microphone and telling the crowd, "Let's (expletive) go, boys!"

The Americans have won the last two Ryder Cups on home soil, but Europe has dominated the event in recent years, winning 10 of the last 14 competitions. This year, Team Europe returns the same 12 faces, with the only newcomer being Rasmus Hojgaard of Denmark, whose identical twin Nicolai played in the previous edition.
