Browns Great Bernie Kosar Undergoes Liver Transplant Surgery

On November 17, 2025, former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar, 61, announced that he is scheduled to receive a liver transplant surgery on Monday, November 20th. Kosar shared the news on social media, stating that it is a "Victory Monday" for him as he prepares for the critical procedure.

Kosar's health issues first came to light in July 2024, when he revealed that he had been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and Parkinson's disease. The former NFL star recalled a particularly harrowing incident in 2024 when his symptoms became severe while watching a Browns game against the New York Jets, leading to his hospitalization. Kosar said his "body gave out" on him and he "really felt like [he] wasn't going to make it home."

Kosar's condition continued to deteriorate, and he was hospitalized again in 2025 after becoming seriously ill while traveling to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. The transplant surgery, originally scheduled for last weekend, had been delayed due to the donor's organ being infected. Kosar underwent "two aggressive" procedures to stop internal bleeding prior to the rescheduled surgery.

Despite his health challenges, the Browns organization honored Kosar during their game against the Baltimore Ravens on November 19, 2025, just days before his scheduled transplant operation.
