Broncos Target Key Free Agents: RB, TE, LB Needs Addressed
5 Mar
Summary
- Broncos prioritize running back, tight end, and linebacker in free agency.
- J.K. Dobbins expresses desire to return, but injury history is a concern.
- Key free agent targets include Kenneth Walker, Travis Etienne, and Rachaad White.

Sean Payton has clearly outlined the Denver Broncos' priorities entering free agency: bolstering the running back, tight end, and linebacker positions. The team aims to address these needs through a mix of their own free agents and external veteran acquisitions. J.K. Dobbins, who played for the Broncos last season, has voiced his wish to remain with the team, citing his relationship with Payton and the organization as reasons for wanting to be a "Bronco for life."
However, Dobbins' significant injury history, having missed 54 of 101 possible regular-season games since 2020, presents a considerable concern. This history, including a Lisfranc foot injury in November 2025, could lead him to seek a one-year "prove-it" deal again. The Broncos are aware of his leadership and on-field capabilities when healthy, but the timeline for his potential return might conflict with Denver's pursuit of other targets.
Several intriguing running back options are available. Kenneth Walker, now a free agent after the Jets placed the franchise tag on Breece Hall, averaged career-best marks in yards per carry and reception in 2025. Travis Etienne, a 2021 first-round pick, offers big-play ability as both a runner and receiver, totaling 1,399 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2025. Rachaad White, a durable player, has steadily improved his rushing efficiency and proved to be a receiving weapon throughout his career.
At tight end, while Evan Engram and Adam Trautman remain possibilities, the Broncos are seeking a player who excels as both a blocker and receiver. Potential upgrades include Cade Otton, who shows promise as an in-line blocker and receiver, and Isaiah Likely, a consistent touchdown threat. Charlie Kolar, known for his run-blocking prowess, is another option.
Linebacker is another area of focus, with the Broncos interested in re-signing Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad. They are also exploring external options like Devin Lloyd, a top inside linebacker, and Alex Anzalone and Kaden Elliss, both of whom have prior connections with Sean Payton from their time with the New Orleans Saints.
