Jacob Bridgeman significantly extended his lead on moving day at the Genesis Invitational, now standing six shots clear atop the leaderboard. He achieved this by recording his second consecutive round of 64 at the renowned Riviera Country Club, reaching a 19-under-par total.
This remarkable performance places the 26-year-old from South Carolina in contention for his first PGA Tour victory and a $4 million prize. Bridgeman is also positioned to challenge the tournament's 72-hole scoring record of 20-under-par, established by Lanny Wadkins in 1985. He has matched the 54-hole record of 194, previously held by Joaquin Niemann.
Rory McIlroy, a five-time major champion, is currently in second place at 13 under par. McIlroy experienced fluctuations during the round, including a bogey on the 11th hole before recovering with a birdie. Englishman Marco Penge, who started the day tied for the lead, struggled and fell back to tied for seventh.
South African Aldrich Potgieter made a notable move, climbing into sole possession of third place at 12 under par after an eagle on the first hole and subsequent birdies. Other notable players include Aaron Rai in fourth place and Xander Schauffele tied for fifth. Scottie Scheffler, the world No. 1, improved his standing with a 66 to reach five under par.
