BRICS Sports Ministers convened under India's 2026 Chairship to adopt a significant Sports Joint Declaration. This pact reaffirms the member states' commitment to enhancing cooperation in sports through dialogue, mutual respect, and inclusivity.
India's Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, proposed the establishment of a BRICS Sporting Partnership. This partnership aims to move beyond declarations to create tangible platforms for collaboration, including athlete and coach exchanges, joint competitions, and sports science knowledge sharing. India highlighted its commitment to making sports more inclusive, particularly through para-sport promotion and increasing women's participation.
Three key initiatives were advanced to deepen sports cooperation: a BRICS Working Group on Sports Technology, a BRICS Sports Manufacturing Conclave, and BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Sports Demonstration Games in 2026. Udaipur was selected to host the inaugural Sports Manufacturing Conclave, focusing on best practices, technology, and trade. Ahmedabad is slated to host the Demonstration Games on October 12-13, 2026, emphasizing cultural exchange and people-to-people ties.
