Weems Named Cavaliers GM, Succeeds Gansey

Brandon Weems, originally from Akron, has been elevated to the position of general manager for the Cleveland Cavaliers. This promotion fills the vacancy left by Mike Gansey, who moved to the Philadelphia 76ers in May to become their president of basketball operations. Weems' appointment was confirmed on September 18, 2026, and he will continue to serve as a key aide to Cavs president Koby Altman. Weems, a 2004 graduate of St. Vincent-St. Mary, was a high school basketball teammate of LeBron James. He joined the Cavaliers organization in 2015 as a scout and was named assistant general manager in February 2022. Previously, he held roles as senior director of player personnel and director of scouting. Weems also has experience coaching at the collegiate level, having worked with Oakland University, Drexel, and Kentucky. As a college player, he was a guard for Walsh University.
