Clippers Bet on Beal's Bounce-Back Season

Bradley Beal has agreed to a new two-year deal worth $13.2 million with the Los Angeles Clippers, as reported on August 14, 2026. This agreement includes a player option for the second season, allowing Beal to test the market again. The decision follows Beal's previous move to decline his $5.6 million player option for the upcoming season, making him an unrestricted free agent after his first year with the team.

Despite a challenging start with the Clippers, marked by a fractured left hip that necessitated surgery and limited him to just six games during the 2025-26 season, the team expressed interest in retaining him. Health and durability have been persistent concerns for Beal, who has not played over 60 games in a season since 2018-19. At 33 years old, expectations for increased durability are tempered.

However, Beal's substantial career achievements, including three All-Star selections and an All-NBA Third Team nod in 2020-21 where he averaged 31.3 points per game, likely influenced the Clippers' decision. While the dominant offensive player he was with the Washington Wizards may be a past version, he remains a capable shooter with the potential to offer veteran leadership and an offensive boost if he can regain his form. The Miami Heat were also reportedly interested in Beal.
