Disney Chief Rules Out LA28 Olympics Chair Role
24 Feb
Summary
- Bob Iger will not replace Casey Wasserman as LA28 chairman.
- Iger has not been approached but would refuse the position.
- Wasserman faces pressure to resign due to ties with Ghislaine Maxwell.

Bob Iger, the outgoing CEO of Disney, has indicated he is not interested in becoming the chairman of the LA28 Olympics committee. Sources close to Iger confirmed he has not been approached for the role and would not accept it if offered. Iger is set to transition from his CEO position in March and will remain with Disney as a Senior Advisor until his retirement later in the year.
The speculation surrounding potential replacements for Wasserman intensified after his personal connection to Ghislaine Maxwell became public knowledge. Racy emails between Wasserman and Maxwell were revealed in documents released by the Department of Justice on January 30. In the aftermath, several clients, including Chappell Roan and Abby Wambach, departed Wasserman's agency.
Despite the controversy and calls for his resignation from thousands of petitioners and local officials, including Mayor Karen Bass, Wasserman has retained his position as LA28 chairman. The LA28 board, comprising figures like Jeffrey Katzenberg and Jeanie Buss, has continued to support him. Mayor Bass expressed her dissent, stating she does not support the decision to keep Wasserman and believes new leadership is needed.
Following intense reporting and mounting pressure, Wasserman announced his intention to sell his stake in his company, which is also slated to change its name. Nevertheless, his leadership of the LA28 Olympic committee remains intact.
