The Bloomfield High boys' track team achieved their first State Open indoor track title since 2020 on Saturday, securing a narrow 41-40 victory over defending champions Lyman Hall. The decisive moment came in the 4x400-meter relay, where Bloomfield's fourth-place finish edged them ahead.
Coach Garfield White expressed relief and pride in his team's performance, acknowledging the strong effort from Lyman Hall. The Bloomfield girls' team also celebrated a significant win, claiming their third State Open title in the past four years with a commanding performance.
Individual achievements were notable, with Bloomfield's Khile Francis winning the shot put, a crucial victory that contributed to the team's overall score. Windsor's Shelldon Simpson II also had a standout day, breaking meet records in the 55 meters and 300 meters.
Other meet records were shattered by Glastonbury's Lauren Parrett in the 3,200 meters and East Hartford's Davion Johnson in the 55 hurdles, highlighting a meet filled with exceptional athletic feats.
