Edwards and 16 other former Tennessee basketball players filed a lawsuit seeking an additional season, citing the NCAA's new 5-in-5 rule. On July 31, a Tennessee state court granted them a temporary injunction, allowing them to play during the 2026-27 season and opening a special transfer window from August 3-10.
While awaiting the court's decision, Edwards participated in the 2026 NBA Summer League with the Sacramento Kings, averaging 2.4 points. After transferring from Tennessee following his freshman year, Edwards became a standout player for SMU, leading them to the NCAA Tournament's First Four last season. In his senior year, he averaged 12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and an ACC-leading 2.3 steals per game.
