- Carmichael led Saints to 12 Top 10 scoring offenses.
- Longtime backup QB Chase Daniel praises the hire, citing Sean Payton influence.
The Buffalo Bills have appointed Pete Carmichael as their new offensive coordinator, bringing a veteran presence to the coaching staff. Carmichael spent the last two seasons as a senior offensive assistant with the Denver Broncos, but his extensive history includes serving as the New Orleans Saints' offensive coordinator from 2009 to 2023. This move marks a reunion with new Bills head coach Joe Brady, who previously worked under Carmichael as an offensive assistant in New Orleans during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
Carmichael's tenure with the Saints saw remarkable offensive success, with the team achieving Top 10 scoring offense status on 12 occasions and Top 10 offensive yardage 11 times. During this period, Drew Brees led an offense that significantly impacted NFL record books. Carmichael also contributed to Denver's offensive resurgence, particularly with quarterback Bo Nix's development. Veteran quarterback Chase Daniel, a former Saints player and now an ESPN analyst, expressed strong confidence in the hire, suggesting a significant Sean Payton influence on the Bills' upcoming offensive schemes.
