6 Mar
Summary
- Daniel Berger shot a nine-under 63 to lead the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
- Berger overcame significant injury issues, including back and finger problems.
- Scottie Scheffler and Justin Rose are among those tied at two under.

Daniel Berger surged to a commanding three-shot lead after the opening round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, carding an impressive nine-under-par 63. This stellar performance comes after a challenging period for Berger, who battled back problems and a fractured finger, which had sidelined him for extended periods. His blemish-free round included six birdies on the back nine, narrowly missing the course record.
Other notable performances saw Sweden's Ludvig Aberg finish at six under, and former Open champion Collin Morikawa also sit three shots off the lead. World number one Scottie Scheffler achieved his first sub-par opening round since January, posting a two-under 70. Justin Rose is also in contention at two under par, alongside Scheffler.
Rory McIlroy encountered difficulties, finishing at even par after a costly double bogey and two subsequent bogeys, before ending with a final bogey on the 18th. Tommy Fleetwood struggled significantly, ending the day at four over par after a tough front nine.
