Wrestler Bennett Berge achieved a dominant victory at the U-23 Pan-American Championships in Lima, Peru, on June 11. Berge, a 2021 Kasson-Mantorville High School graduate, captured the 86 kg gold medal.
He demonstrated exceptional prowess by winning five matches, including four shutout technical falls and one pin. Berge concluded the tournament with a 10-0 victory over two-time age-group medalist Alek Ortiz Roman of Puerto Rico in the final. His performance was so outstanding that he received the Golden Boot, awarded to the most valuable wrestler.
This triumph follows Berge's recent U-23 national title win in Geneva, Ohio, less than two weeks prior. Berge was one of nine American champions who contributed to the U.S. winning the team title with 245 points. Puerto Rico finished second with 180 points, followed by Mexico with 100.
