Bencic was forced to dig deep, eventually defeating Yuliia Starodubtseva 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 in a closely contested battle. Shnaider also staged a remarkable comeback, rallying past former French Open finalist Karolina Muchova with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Both players' hard-fought wins have set them up for a place in the last eight, joining Ajla Tomljanovic, who had already booked her quarterfinal berth. The remaining players will now aim to join the trio in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
