Simmons Set to Start for Kings Despite Expectations
13 Oct
Summary
- Ben Simmons is expected to start for the Kings in the upcoming season.
- This role differs from initial reports suggesting he would back up a rookie.
- His starting position may shift Precious Achiuwa to a bench role.
Ben Simmons is anticipated to be a fixture in the Sacramento Kings' starting lineup when the regular season commences. This projection emerges despite initial reports suggesting he would primarily back up rookie point guard Darius Acuff Jr. Simmons recently played nine minutes in his unofficial debut for the Kings against the Warriors, following an entire season off in 2025-26.
His role is expected to expand further in the Kings' final two preseason contests. The team's apparent plan to start Simmons suggests a shift in strategy. Consequently, Precious Achiuwa is likely to transition to a reserve role. The projected starting five for the Kings includes Zach LaVine, Keegan Murray, Domantas Sabonis, and Ben Simmons.
