Muhammad: Nurmagomedov Proves Skill, Not Privilege

Belal Muhammad has dismissed claims that Umar Nurmagomedov receives preferential treatment from the UFC. Nurmagomedov, currently holding a 20-1 MMA record with a 7-1 UFC standing, is preparing to headline UFC Fight Night 286. This follows his return to form with two consecutive victories after a close title bout against Merab Dvalishvili.

Nurmagomedov is scheduled to face Song Yadong in the main event in Shanghai, China. Muhammad emphasized Nurmagomedov's challenging opponents, such as Mario Bautista and former champion Deiveson Figueiredo, and noted his readiness to compete against anyone. This willingness, Muhammad suggests, demonstrates Nurmagomedov's drive to prove himself as the best.

Muhammad provided strategic insights for both fighters. For Nurmagomedov, he advised establishing wrestling early and maintaining distance to utilize kicks effectively. He cautioned against engaging in a stand-up striking battle, highlighting the risk of counter-offense, as seen in Nurmagomedov's past fight with Cory Sandhagen. Muhammad also recommended chaining takedowns and securing ground control.

For Song Yadong, Muhammad stressed the importance of controlling the center of the octagon and maintaining a boxing range while being wary of Nurmagomedov's kicks. He advised Song to counter missed takedowns aggressively. Muhammad believes Nurmagomedov's well-rounded skillset and strategic approach will lead him to victory against Song.
