Baylor DL Flip: Wheeler Aims to Transform Unit
19 Aug
Summary
- Hosea Wheeler joins Baylor, bringing championship experience to the defensive line.
- The Bears' defensive line ranked among the worst nationally last season.
- Questions linger over the wide receiver corps' experience and production.
The Baylor Bears are preparing for a pivotal football season, with less than 20 practices remaining before their opener against Auburn. Expectations are high, but questions surround the team's valuation.
The defensive line, which was among the nation's worst last season in sacks and forced fumbles, is expected to improve dramatically. The addition of Hosea Wheeler, a national champion from Indiana, is seen as a significant boost. Coach Jacori Greer highlighted Wheeler's leadership and technical skills as vital.
Conversely, the wide receiver unit faces significant challenges. The team lost its top four pass catchers and quarterback Sawyer Robertson. While new talents like Gavin Freeman and Dre'lon Miller have joined, their past production and size raise concerns. This places considerable pressure on less experienced players and the offensive coordinator to build chemistry.
