This weekend, the MLB Pipeline Prospect Showcase series will feature a matchup between Double-A Springfield and Amarillo. The game, scheduled for Saturday at 7:35 p.m. ET, will be broadcast live on MLB Network and MLB.TV, and streamed on MLB.com.
Rainiel Rodriguez, MLB Pipeline's No. 12 overall prospect and the top catching prospect in baseball, is expected to be a major draw. The 19-year-old Cardinal prospect has been on a tear, hitting .317/.415/.574 with seven homers in his last 25 games. He is one of only three teenagers playing at the Double-A level this season.
Other notable Cardinals prospects include Jesús Báez, who has impressed with seven homers and a .677 slugging percentage since joining the Texas League in late June, and Deniel Ortiz, working back from injury. Outfielder Won-Bin Cho is also performing exceptionally, tied for the league lead with nine homers since his Double-A debut on June 23.
On the mound for Springfield is left-hander Cooper Hjerpe, expected to start. The visiting Amarillo Sod Poodles will showcase several ranked Arizona prospects, including second baseman Demetrio Crisantes, hitting .306/.393/.532 with four homers in his first 32 games in the Texas League. Other key D-backs prospects include Jansel Luis, Cristofer Torin, Druw Jones, and Alberto Barriga.
Both the Cardinals and D-backs are currently within three games of an NL Wild Card spot following the All-Star break, suggesting both teams may be active at the Trade Deadline. This showcase offers a glimpse of prospects who could potentially be involved in future transactions.
