Clash of titans: Barcelona vs Atlético looms
8 Apr
Summary
- Lewandowski's late goal secured Barcelona's recent win.
- Barcelona leads La Liga by seven points.
- Atlético previously thrashed Barcelona 4-0 in Copa del Rey.
Barcelona secured a vital 2-1 victory in their recent La Liga match, with Robert Lewandowski scoring the decisive goal in the 87th minute. This win places Hansi Flick's side in a commanding position, leading second-placed Real Madrid by seven points and widening the gap to their upcoming opponents.
However, recent history presents a different narrative. Earlier in February, Diego Simeone's Atlético Madrid inflicted a resounding 4-0 defeat on Barcelona in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final. Despite Barcelona's subsequent comeback attempt, the memory of that significant loss lingers.
Furthermore, Atlético boasts a strong record against Barcelona in the Champions League, having eliminated them in both the 2013/14 and 2015/16 quarter-finals. The last nine encounters between these two clubs have been high-scoring affairs, promising an exciting spectacle. Simeone expressed confidence in his team's ability to compete and challenge Barcelona.
