Summary
- Eric Garcia returns from injury to play right back.
- Barcelona leads Atletico by two points in the standings.
- Midfield changes include Bernal partnering Pedri.
FC Barcelona's head coach, Hansi Flick, is set to field Eric Garcia at right back immediately after the player received medical clearance. This decision comes ahead of Sunday night's crucial match against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano. Barcelona currently holds a two-point lead over Atletico in the league standings, with Real Madrid also level on points.
The Catalan defense has been significantly impacted by recent injuries, leading to an expected backline of Cancelo, Martin, Cubarsi, and Eric Garcia. In the midfield, Marc Bernal will partner Pedri in a double pivot, replacing the injured Rodri. Fermin Lopez is slated to play as the central attacking midfielder due to Dani Olmo's absence.
Raphinha is expected to lead the attack as a striker, flanked by wingers Anthony Gordon and Lamine Yamal. Coach Flick emphasized the importance of every game, stating the team's objective is to win in Madrid against a strong opponent, despite La Liga's lengthy season.
