Bangladesh has unveiled a 15-player squad for the opening Test against Pakistan, marking the maiden Test call-ups for uncapped batters Tanzid Tamim and Amite Hasan. Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue to lead the team, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz appointed as his deputy. The home series commences on May 8 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, followed by the second Test in Sylhet from May 16. Both matches are integral to the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship cycle.
Tanzid, a left-handed opener with a 40 average in first-class cricket, earned his spot through steady domestic returns. Chief selector Habibul Bashar noted Tanzid's sound technique and natural ability as reasons for his selection. Middle-order batter Amite, averaging 49, was praised for his remarkable consistency, temperament, and patience, qualities deemed essential for Test cricket.
The selectors' choices signify a strategic effort to strengthen Bangladesh's batting depth for the longest format. Alongside the new faces, the squad sees the return of pacers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam, as well as off-spinner Nayeem Hasan, bolstering the bowling attack with experience. The series presents a significant opportunity for Tanzid and Amite to translate their domestic success onto the international stage.
