Summary
- Bangladesh withdrew from T20 World Cup citing security concerns.
- Former official criticizes withdrawal as damaging to cricket's progress.
- Scotland replaces Bangladesh in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

Bangladesh has been replaced by Scotland in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, following the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) refusal to participate as scheduled.
Former BCB general secretary Suyed Ashraful Haque criticized the government and BCB's decision, deeming it an unnecessary and damaging move. He suggested the withdrawal was wrongly linked to a Bangladeshi player not being selected for the Indian Premier League (IPL), an event he considered distinct from the World Cup's rigorous security.
Scotland, the highest-ranked non-qualifying T20I team, will take Bangladesh's place in the 20-team tournament set for February 7 to March 8, 2026. The ICC stated that its own assessments found no credible security threat to the Bangladesh team in India.
