Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert celebrated a triumphant opening day, saddling three graded stakes winners: Nysos, Goal Oriented, and Usha. All three horses were reported to be in excellent condition the morning after their impressive performances.
Nysos, by Nyquist, captured the Grade 2 Laffit Pincay Jr. by a head, achieving a 101 Beyer Speed Figure and increasing his earnings to over $1.2 million. His stablemate, Nevada Beach, was the runner-up in this thrilling contest. Following this victory, both horses were considered potential candidates for the Saudi Cup, though no final decisions have been made.
Goal Oriented, a three-year-old colt, recorded a career-best 108 Beyer Speed Figure with a powerful stretch run to win the seven-furlong G1 Malibu Stakes by a length over stablemate Midland Money. Usha, another three-year-old, demonstrated dominance with a 5 ¼-length triumph in the G1 La Brea Stakes, earning a 99 Beyer Speed Figure and marking her first stakes win.
