Backup QB Leads Boise State in High-Stakes Mountain West Clash
16 Nov
Summary
- Boise State and San Diego State tied atop Mountain West standings
- Boise State's starting QB Maddux Madsen injured, backup Max Cutforth to start
- Both teams coming off losses, looking to bounce back
On Saturday, November 18, 2025, the Boise State Broncos (6-3, 4-1 Mountain West) will travel to San Diego to take on the San Diego State Aztecs (7-2, 4-1) in a crucial Mountain West Conference showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET.
The two teams are currently tied atop the Mountain West standings with identical 4-1 conference records. The winner of this game will have the inside track for a spot in the Mountain West Championship game. This matchup could very well be a preview of that title game.
Boise State will be led by backup quarterback Max Cutforth, as starter Maddux Madsen was knocked out of the Broncos' previous game with a leg injury. Cutforth was thrust into action and struggled in the 30-7 loss to Fresno State. Both teams are looking to bounce back from recent defeats, as San Diego State was also crushed 38-6 by Hawaii last week.
The Broncos have won the last three meetings against the Aztecs, including a 56-24 victory on the "Smurf Turf" last season. However, with the quarterback change and the game being played in San Diego, the Aztecs will be favored to come out on top in this high-stakes conference clash.
