Sun Devils Struggle: Offense Falters in K-State Loss
3 Feb
Summary
- Arizona State lost to Kansas State 74-67 at home.
- The team's offense is ranked third-lowest in Big 12 scoring.
- Coach Miller emphasizes defense to compensate for offensive struggles.

The Arizona State Sun Devils' record dropped to 18-5 overall and 5-5 in Big 12 play following a 74-67 defeat against the Kansas State Wildcats. The home game in Tempe saw the Sun Devils trail by as many as 24 points, with their late comeback falling short against a Kansas State team that entered the contest with an 11-11 record.
Head coach Molly Miller acknowledged the team's offensive challenges, particularly against Kansas State's zone defense. Arizona State currently averages the third-fewest points in the Big 12 at 66.8 per game and is 13th in three-point shooting percentage at 27.8%. Miller expressed uncertainty about a dramatic offensive improvement in the remaining regular season games.
"We've got to be able to shoot it with confidence. Someone's got to put the ball in the hole," Miller stated. She emphasized that the team's defense must be the primary driver of their offense, as 67 points should have been sufficient to win the game. "The defense, the defense, the defense, is where we have to create our offense."
Despite offensive concerns, Arizona State features key scorers like guard Gabby Elliott (16.7 PPG) and forward McKinna Brackens (14.7 PPG), with Heloisa Carrera also emerging recently. However, the team's low volume of three-point attempts and assist rate continue to be potential issues heading into the final eight games. The Sun Devils are scheduled to host Oklahoma State on Wednesday, concluding a three-game homestand.
