The Houston Astros, despite a remarkable run of eight consecutive playoff appearances ending in 2024, have lacked a presence on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 prospects list. This trend could change in 2026 with the emergence of three promising talents: Kevin Alvarez, Xavier Neyens, and Ethan Frey.
Alvarez, who signed for $2 million in January, demonstrated impressive offensive skills in the Dominican Summer League. He posted a .301/.419/.455 slash line with two home runs and 33 RBI over 47 games. He is expected to play stateside this year and recently participated in spring training.
Xavier Neyens, a first-round selection in July, is yet to play professionally. The Astros opted to give the 6-foot-4 infielder extended development time. Neyens, who signed for $4 million, projects as a power hitter with a 65-grade power projection and could potentially transition to third base.
Ethan Frey, a fourth-round pick from LSU, began his professional career at Class-A Fayetteville in August. He hit .330/.434/.470 with three home runs and 17 RBI. Notably, Frey displayed strong plate discipline, drawing 20 walks against just 25 strikeouts in 100 at-bats.
