His offensive performance was rated 2% below league average.
Shay Whitcomb, a fifth-round draft pick from 2020, loses his spot on Houston's 40-man roster. He reached the majors in August 2024 after a strong performance in Triple-A. Unfortunately, his production did not translate to the major league level, where he has a .167 batting average. The Astros are now creating an opportunity for Velázquez to potentially establish a role within the team.
