Aston Villa secured a crucial 3-1 victory over Bologna in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie. The result provides the English club with a significant two-goal advantage ahead of the return fixture at Villa Park.
Ollie Watkins netted two goals for Unai Emery's side, including a late strike in stoppage time, while Ezri Konsa opened the scoring just before halftime. Bologna had early chances and even thought they had taken the lead, but a goal was disallowed after a VAR review for offside.
Despite Bologna pulling a goal back in the 90th minute through Jonathan Rowe, Aston Villa quickly restored their two-goal lead through Watkins' second of the match. This clinical performance puts Villa in a strong position to advance to the semi-finals.
